Community Matters

We are living in very isolating times. Retreating to our own corner feels like the easiest thing to do for a number of reasons but now more than ever we need each other. I wanted to write something to encourage us especially as Women to be intentional about nurturing our current relationships AND being open to new relationships. I can relate to the feelings of distrust and wanting to remain closed off but I can also relate to the self imposed feelings of loneliness. We were not created to live this life alone but we have to be willing to take action. Here are a three things that we must prioritize when building community:

Humility

Simply put, we have to put the needs of others ahead of our own when building community. This does not mean that our needs won’t be met. It just means that we aren’t leading in with our own agenda. Ultimately if all parties involved in the community approach things with humility, everyone’s needs will be met.

Transparency

We have to stop sending our representative and show up just as we are.Community can’t exist without honesty, openness, and vulnerability. I hear you saying, “I don’t want my business on front street.” Well in most cases it already is BUT when you connect with a genuine community, you can rest assured that you will be accepted for who you are.

 Generosity

What we put into the community will be what we get out of it. Avoid giving out of obligation because it will show. Instead give generously. My experience in community is that you will receive at just the right time and in abundance when your heart is in the right place/
